treasures from olden times. i discovered the most wonderful little antique shop with glorious dresses & furniture & shoes & jewelry & toys & everything imaginable from times long ago! & i literally fell in love. i loved being in there. being in shops like that make me so happy. it's a happy little place. the owner is a old lady with big glasses and hair swept messily atop her head. she was sweet & we talked about our love for old things. i bought flower-patterned and flower-embroidered handkerchiefs & slippers from india & hippie booties (not minnetonkas) & black leather flower gloves & an apron! an apron! i'll be going there forever. & i'll be going there tomarrow or this weekend to take photos & polaroids of that place & i'll show you.

these past few days have been lovely. i love my life. like, deeply love it. and i love my boyfriend. sunday was our one year & we ate lots of food and lay together. i've also managed to get myself that job. yes, i've got a job! it is my very first job! & i'm exicted to be making money. mamma bought me a juicy couture hoodie. it's nice. i'm reading jane eyre by charlotte bronte. so far i'm not liking it much as others. i've been reading alot of women writers from the 1800s and her story isn't making me feel like others. did anyone else read this and think the same? roland & i laid around today and kissed lots. i love everything right now. how is everyone? love, m.

I love antique shops and I wish we had more where I lived.
They just have this feel...of older times and generations that I just love. The booties are nice [:

I didn't enjoy Jane Eyre as much as other books. I'm not sure exactly what It was, It just didn't really catch my attention and make me want to keep reading it.

January 26 2006, 05:00:13 UTC 6 years ago

maybe you need to look and you'll find one! i had never heard or seen this one. it's on a side of town that i never go to and the outside of the store is something that you would never notice. maybe the antique shops where you live are hidden! i feel the same way about them & thank you! yes, exactly. it's not catching my attention at all. i like the way she writes, i think, but the actual story isn't appealing to me. i'm going to keep reading it though because i hate unfinished books.

wow. i wish i could find good antique shops in houston.
your photos remind me of old 70s photos. :D

I read Jane Eyre a while back, and i didn't enjoy it as much, but after getting to halfway of the book, i got kind of into it and made myself understand it a little more better.i can't say its one of my favorite books, but it is a pretty alright book to me.

[info]cinnayum

January 26 2006, 05:02:41 UTC 6 years ago

oh my goodness, houston!? babies, i'm sure they're are hundreds of them! you need to look for them. most of the good ones are buildings and shops that you would never look at in old parts of town where no one hardly goes. you must try a little to find wonderful things.

mhm, as i said in the other comment, it's not catching my attention at all. it's not that i dislike the way she writes because i do. at least i think i do. but i've only just begun the book. the storyline and mostly the characters are just not touching me. i'm going to continue reading it though because i don't like unfinished books!

I hope you're talking about Anita's!
You described her perfectly.

I really hope you are talking of her; because then this would be a completely pointless comment.

But that lady is amazing!
I want to take her out to dinner some day.
She's given me the most amazing deals on everything there at the store and constantly gives me free scarves.
I love her.

aw, i probaley am!!! i didn't catch her name or even the name of the place! i was so excited to just be in there & i didn't have much time because i had to leave & i was running all over the store & talking to her! she is such a sweet lady! she gave me a really good deal, too! all i had on me was a twenty and so she gave me all that stuff for twenty dollars! i think i'm going to love her, too! :)

Sounds like an amazing shop. I would love to see pictures of the place and of the old lady who owns it. She sounds interesting.
I'm so glad you're happy about a lot of things. Makes your heart swell doesn't it?

oh dear kobe
if only you could come with me to the shop. you'd have a grand time! i know it! and i'd take you to mexico which is only fifteen minutes away and we could shop there and eat at the taco stands and have some drinks at a bar since they don't care about your age. it would be fun!

Hey, just thought I'd let you know I added you. You don't know me, but you have a cool journal.

I'll be celebrating one year with my boy come February though sadly it's a long-distance thing. It's still good though. I'm happy today cuz the furniture I've been in love with forever is on sale. I got a nightstand today and tomorrow I'm going back after dressers. It's been a good day. Lots of money spent, meaning lots more work to be done. Still good though.

[info]cinnayum

January 26 2006, 05:34:27 UTC 6 years ago

well congratulations when that day comes. long distance relationships are so hard. i don't know if i could do it. mhm, i took a look at your journal and saw that. :) they have this really amazing antique dresser/vanity at that antique store i was talking about. i would love to have it!

do not forget to post pictures of the shop, i cannot wait to see
what kind of job did you get? :)
as for jane eyre, i think the more interesting alternative is 'wide sargasso sea' which is the story of the 'mad' wife. but I'm the same as you, I can never ever leave books unfinished, even if i hate them i must finish them for my own peace of mind

[info]cinnayum

January 26 2006, 05:50:01 UTC 6 years ago

i definately won't! i got a job working at the mall! not exactly what i wanted but i needed a job terribly. and i really did not want to work at a fast-food place or a restaurant. my ideal job would be a cafe or bookstore or library! tell me more about this book. it's not written by charlotte bronte, is it? i've never heard of it.

I enjoyed that tale far better

you're the first one whose had such strong bad opinions againist it! everyone else has said that it is not their favorite but that it is still an "okay" book & that it gets better. what don't you like about it!? i want to know! i'm very early in the book so i don't know how i'm going to feel when i finish it. they say the characters and storyline get better, but does it? i'm going to read the book you suggested next!

that store your discovered sounds fabolous. i read that book back in high school and fell asleep numerous times. whenever i wanted to fall asleep fast all i had to do was open up that book. true story. BUT i did enjoy wuthering heights by her sister emily. hopefully that helps.

ahh antique shopping! we have a lot of shops here, where different vendors come and sell their stuff, like every day and in one particular, there's three WHOLE floors where you can browse, it's so great.

also, congrats on the one year and the job! i honestly couldn't see myself working at ae, i'm more a coffee house or blockbuster kind of guy. plus, like you, i vow to stay away from horrible fastfood places.

ps. - i suggest listening to viking moses' older stuff, it kind of steps away from the whole folk deal and gets jazzy :)

[info]cinnayum

January 26 2006, 16:41:06 UTC 6 years ago

oh gosh that sounds amazing. where do you live? i wish we had that here. we do have alot of mexican fleamarkets and good thrift/antique shops, though. & thank you! i don't think i see myself working at ae either, but i do buy clothes from there sometimes. i definately am more of a bookstore or coffee place person but i couldn't find any of those jobs. and i was so set on not working with food! so i am pleased with this job. the discount makes it better! i've never heard viking moses's old music. he messaged me on myspace when i added him so maybe i'll ask him to send me some stuff or something!

hmmm have you ever read wuthering heights? it was long ago when i read it so i'm not sure that it's as good as i remember, but i took the time to finish it twice so it probably is?

also, find an antique shop that deals only in wood furniture sometime. it has the best energy ever. the neatest feeling.

[info]cinnayum

January 26 2006, 16:42:15 UTC 6 years ago

yes, i've read wuthering heights. i liked it alot. but i liked pride and prejudice better. i would like to buy old wooden furniture for our apartment. i want it to be filled with pretty old things. especially pretty, old wall decorations.

I had to read Jane Eyre for the school. And though I love literature and I love 1800 century's literature..
I hated Jane Eyre till the end. I didn't like it at all. I found it a bit aggressive and somehow I didn't like the language either.

Tell me what you liked it completely, after you've finished it.

+ ++
I love all the beautiful things in the pictures and congrats for the job!

[info]cinnayum

January 26 2006, 16:43:05 UTC 6 years ago

aww those are such lovely finds! I've always wanted an apron.

Hmm..Jane Eyre starts off horribly slow but it gets better. there are interesting parts, and then there are boring parts. I can't say I loved it.

oh & congrats on the one year anniversary :) your day sounds like it was perfect.

aww that shop sounds fantastic! I'm glad that your anniversary went so well. I love days like those, the days where everything seems to be completely wonderful.
myself, well things have been alright, hmmm. I have seen some changes in my kitty (the one with the tumor) and that is certainly scaring me. I have decided to cohost a Valentine's party with my friend Carly who is really popular. She was my best friend from kindergarten to 5th grade and then we got all different classes but we are still close friends. I can't decide if I'm making the right decision though. If I host a Valentine's Day party by myself it would mean having 8 to 10 of my girlfriends over for something like a tea party and basically like the valentine's day party thing they had in teen vogue this month.... With Carly it's a 7 to 10 party with like 14 boys and 14 girls or something. Which is still really fun but ugh I don't know :( some of carly's friends are really obnoxious and mmmmm...
at least if carly and i have the party then the boy i like will be invited
oooh and we are moving in late february or early march or late march or i don't know but somewhere around there. but anyways I don't like my room at all right now so I got my bunkbed taken down. I have only a mattress on the floor right now. Which is pretty neat. It looks better with the room. And I have started taking down stuff on my walls. its exciting :)
oh and I watched this film called the virgin suicides and surprisingly really enjoyed it. it was very interesting and I actually really liked it.

[info]cinnayum

January 30 2006, 21:10:53 UTC 6 years ago

thank you. :) what is wrong with your kitty? i wish i could host a valentine's day party but i'm not friends with very many people at all. just roland & chelsea main. maybe us three could have a little thing at a park. chelsea main could invite someone. that would work, i think. i've watched the virgin suicides before. it was a good movie. you should read the book & listen to the soundtrack. :)

I think I know what antique shop you are talking about (same one poisonevy said) My mom is somewhat friends with Anita and she always looks out for rod iron beds for my mom because she loves them and its hard to find a good deal on them. Annnnd in the summer I went there and found this really beautiful dress but it didn't fit me & I was really sad.

[info]cinnayum

January 30 2006, 21:12:20 UTC 6 years ago

yes, that is the one! i found some bags and some petticoats i want from there but i need to wait until i get paid. i haven't even started my job yet much less gotten a paycheck and i already owe my mamma 80 dollars! i keep seeing things i like & telling her to buy them for me & i'll pay her back when i get paid! hahaha.

January 26 2006, 17:06:17 UTC 6 years ago

You can find dozens and dozens of great antique shops where I live and around the area. And so many districts dedicated to antique and vintage goods. My mom collects antiques… we have photos of people all about the house, that we don’t even know! So, I take after my mom with the whole love for antiques and antiquing. Also, anywhere we travel to or vacation at, I looks for antique shops, and I have to say that none ANYWHERE compare to what we have here in northern VA/DC/MD.

sorry this is so long, but I also wanted to say congrats on your one year with your boyfriend. My two year with mine will be this spring!

The shop sounds amazing.

I actually loved Jane Eyre, but it does take a while to get past the pathetic orphan thing she's got going on.

[info]cinnayum

January 30 2006, 21:13:54 UTC 6 years ago

it is, it is! as for jane eyre, sometimes some parts of the book interests me but when nothing exciting is going on or when she's not talking to rochester i can't get into it! i feel as if my eyes are just running across the words & i'm not paying attention at all. it's so boring!

oh, i wish we had such an antique shop around here, because i'm deeply in love with old stuff. plus, the things you bought look very pretty.

it's good to hear that you're feeling so great lately. ♥

[info]cinnayum

i'm sure you can find some hidden ones! all towns and cities have to have at least one!! the good thing about small towns is they usually have one and have really great things! and big cities just have ALOT of antique shops and so many things!
